JUNE 278:30pm - The DAM Band presents: “Amen, Darger”
Henry Darger was one of America's most prolific and original artist.
Ironically, Darger's work is often called "Outsider art", yet borrows
images, characters and ethos from sources such as children's books,
add copy, The Bible, and the daily paper, and creates a entire
universe all his own. 'Amen, Brother', a song recorded by classic
soul and funk group The Winstons, contains what is possibly the most
sampled drum break in history. This 5.20 second drum break has
generated thousands of hours of music since sampling first came in to
practice 25+ years ago.
It is in this spirit that drummer David Andrew Moore presents Amen,
Darger. Combining disparate elements of 20th and 21st century
concert, popular and dance music, Amen, Darger attempts to create a
sonic universe wholly unique and exciting. and it grooves really hard,
too.

9:30pm - Nico Soffiato

The music of the Nico Soffiato Quartet travels through several musical
trajectories that simultaneously comforts and challenges any listener.
While its roots are strongly grounded in the jazz tradition, its
routes move in the compositional direction of complex rhythmic and
harmonic structures, creating a melodic soundscape that is
intentionally in flux with every groove.

10:30pm - Fay Victor’s Jazz Vault
The Jazz Vault Group is a chamber/Dixieland combo with guitar, reeds,
tuba and voice for the instrumentation. The mostly jazz repertory
material is focused on modern jazz masters such as Jackie McLean, Eric
Dolphy, Herbie Nichols, Charles Mingus and Thelonious Monk and of
course, Duke Ellington. This group fuses fun, swing and absurdity into
the musical mix and you’ve never heard jazz sound like this! The Jazz
Vault includes Michael Attias (reeds), Anders Nilsson (guitar) and
Jose Davila (tuba). Jazz Vault has performed at venues such as the
Downtown Music Gallery, Enzo’s Jazz, the 55 Bar, the Stone and
Cornelia Street Cafe in New York City.
Recently, the Jazz Vault project has been focused on the works of
Herbie Nichols, performing somewhat regularly at the 55BAR in New York
City and digging into the genius of Herbie Nichols infectious melodies
and harmonies coupled with the lyrics Fay Victor has set to them.
